Last York-built Class 365 EMU scrapped

-

WITH THE disposals of the Class 365 fleet continuing over the past few months, it was the turn of 365541 to be collected by 37884 Cepheus from Crewe South Yard on December 9, 2021, for an appointment with the scrapman at CF Booth’s yard in Rotherham.

365541 – the last-built member of the Class 365 fleet – also contained the final vehicles to be constructed at the former Holgate Road Carriage Works at York in 1995, before the plant was closed by ABB the following year.

Scrapping of the 41-strong Class 365 fleet began last year after leasing company Eversholt Rail failed to attract a new operator to make use of the fleet, despite them still being in relatively good condition.

Most of the units that were in store at Crewe South Yard have now been scrapped. It is anticipated that the rest of the Class 365 will be processed for scrap over the coming months.

?? Richard Lillie ?? 365541 was the final unit to be built by the former ABB York Works. After being moved from Crewe South Yard to CF Booth in Rotherham for scrapping, the set remained complete awaiting its fate on December 12, 2021.
