40118 arrives at its new home

-

in the January issue of Railways Illustrated, under-restoration 40118 has moved from its long-time home at Tyseley Locomotive Works to a new base on The Battlefield Line at Shackerstone. The locomotive, which is being restored by the 16SVT Society, was moved by road on January 5, bringing an end to a 33-year association with TLW, where the locomotive has been undergoing what is considered to be one of the most comprehensive overhauls undertaken on a preserved modern traction locomotive. The end-to-end restoration of the Class 40 will now continue at its new base, with the owners hopeful that they should be a position to start the locomotive’s power unit for the first time in preservation in the near future – although it is expected to be some time before the locomotive can be considered to be ready to enter service.

40118 is one of seven Class 40s to survive, but is the only one still to haul a train in preservation.
