Finsbury Park Revival at the East Lancashire Railway on September 21, 2012
The sight and sound of a Deltic is currently missing from the main line railway scene, although that is likely to change in the next few months with the expected return of D9000 and D9009 on the main line, as well as D9015 and 55019 on heritage lines.
In 2012, the East Lancashire Railway hosted five of the surviving six Class 55s, with the opportunity being taken to rekindle memories of an iconic Finsbury Park Depot Deltic line-up at the railway’s Baron Street Locomotive Works. The night photoshoot was organised by Martin Walker and Nigel Valentine, on behalf of the East Lancashire Railway Preservation Society.
Under the moonlight, all five Deltics were powered up and reverberating in the still of the night, recreating an unforgettable sound. 55022 Royal Scots Grey, 55019 Royal Highlander Fusilier, 55002 The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, D9016 Gordon Highlander and D9009 Alycidon pose for the assembled photographers in Baron Street yard.
