Women united: Mrs Abramovich’s fury at Mourinho
JOSE MOURINHO’S clash with the Chelsea Football Club doctor made headlines all over the world.
And now it seems Jose Mourinho has angered another prominent woman at the club – the wife of billionaire owner Roman Abramovich.
Dasha Zhukova is said to be furious over Mourinho’s treatment of Eva Carneiro after he publicly swore at her for rushing on to the pitch to tend an injured player during stoppagetime against Swansea City
last weekend. Miss Zhukova’s angry response came as the Chelsea players prepared for today’s Premier League clash against Manchester City. Dr Carneiro, 41, will be absent from the bench.
A club source said: ‘Abramovich is outraged by what’s happened and his young wife is even more angry. But there’s no way we dare do anything that might be seen as criticising Jose because he would go and we’ve just given him a new four-year contract.
‘The owner hasn’t been around but wherever he is – probably on his yacht in the Med – he will have watched the game and he will know about what’s happened since. I’m sure he will have told the chairman Bruce Buck to sort it before the club’s name gets even more tarnished.’
Meanwhile, Chelsea players were quick to rally round the respected medic, who has been banned from the pitch, the dressing room and the team hotel by Mourinho.
One player is even suspected of sending flowers to Dr Carneiro’s home. The source said: ‘Eva’s paying the price for being so popular. The players love her because she’s so committed and so good at her job, and the fans love her and even chant her name.
‘A lot of people think Jose hates that. Some even suspect he is jealous of her.’
