RUGBY LEAGUE:
Hull KR moved up to fourth with a 32-10 victory over Wakefield, but the win was overshadowed by a row over manager Tony Smith’s midweek declaration that he would quit the club at the end of the season.
Angry Rovers owner Neil Hudgell said in an interview he deserved more than two minutes’ notice of the announcement, but Smith retorted after the match that he was simply being honest.
‘I only said I was finishing at the end of my contract, not quitting,’ said Smith. ‘I told my players first, they are my first priority.’
Smith clearly has the backing of his players, who ran in seven tries to ensure a sixth successive victory.
