20 metres tall and usually over 50 years old, London’s Norwegian spruce is chosen from the woods around Oslo.

The tradition of Norway sending London a tree started in 1947 by way of thanks for Britain’s assistance during

World War II. When the tree is felled in Norway, Westminster’s Lord Mayor, the British ambassador to Norway and the Mayor of Oslo are present.
