20 metres tall and usually over 50 years old, London’s Norwegian spruce is chosen from the woods around Oslo.

The tradition of Norway sending London a tree started in 1947 by way of thanks for Britain’s assistance during

World War II. When the tree is felled in Norway, Westminste­r’s Lord Mayor, the British ambassador to Norway and the Mayor of Oslo are present.
