The Christmas List

Emily was talking; writing out her Christmas list,

Adding all those extras she thought she might have missed.

“If Santa brings me everything, what a heavy sack! What a most enormous load to carry on his back!

And if he did bring everything, some children might be sad To see the toys and books and games and lovely things I had,

If they had only one or two, No, no, I see, it wouldn’t do.

Of course, I don’t expect to get Everything on my long list – and yet

I do so hope that I shall find

He’s brought the things I’ve underlined!”
