TENSION

7 sts and 11 rows to 10 cm measured over stocking-stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) using 15 mm needles.

With 15 mm circular needle cast on 93 sts but do not join.

Working across the needle in rows, work 5 rows in g-st (knit every row) noting that the first row is the wrong side.

1st row – (right side) – K3, P3, K3, rep from to end of row.

2nd row – K3, K3, P3, rep from until 6 sts rem, K6.

3rd & 4th rows – As 1st and 2nd rows. 5th row – K6, yo, sl1, K2tog, psso, yo, K3, rep from until 3 sts rem, K3.

6th row – K3, P3, K3, rep from to end of row.

7th row – K6, P3, K3, rep from until 3 sts rem, K3.

8th & 9th rows – As 6th and 7th rows. 10th row – As 6th row.

11th row – K3, yo, sl1, K2tog, psso, yo, K3, rep from to end of row.

12th row – K6, P3, K3, rep from until 3 sts rem, K3.

These 12 rows form pattern.

Continue in pattern as set until blanket measures approx. 142 cm, ending on a right-side (odd-numbered row).

TO COMPLETE

Stripe – With crochet hook and right side facing, join C with sl st to first st at bottom right corner of blanket. Working vertically up row of knit sts (taking care not to work tightly to prevent buckling) and keeping yarn to back of blanket, work surface sl st as follows: Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop through loop on hook. Rep from to opposite end of blanket.

Rep slip stitch stripe along each column of knit sts running between increase and decrease sections. Fasten off. Note: There will be 32 surface slip stitch stripes in total including each side edge stitch.

Tassels (make 30) –

Wind yarn C around a piece of cardboard 12.5 cm wide 12 times. Tie through loops securely at one end and cut across the other end. Wrap yarn 6 times around tassel 4 cm down from tied end. Fasten securely.

Sew tassels to end of surface slipstitch rows at top and bottom of photograph as shown.
