This cross-over cardigan is perfect as the season changes. Worked in a soft Aran yarn, it features a bobble edging and tie fastenings.

and work in g-st, st-st and cable and bobble patt as follows:

1st row (right side) – Knit until 16 sts rem, work next row of cable and bobble patt, K3.

2nd row – K3, work next row of cable and bobble patt, purl to end.

Rep these 2 rows working

3rd - 8th rows of cable and bobble pattern then cont in patt until work measures 12 (12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 7, 6) cm, from beg, ending after a wrong-side row.

Shape neckline –

1st row (right side) – Knit until 18 sts rem, K2tog, work next row of cable and bobble patt, K3.

2nd row – K3, work next row of cable and bobble patt, purl to end of row.

These two rows set the position of the pattern and neckline decs.

Cont in patt as set, working decs on every right-side row until work measures the same as the back to armhole shaping, ending after a wrong-side row (right front end with a right-side row).

Shape armhole and neckline edge – Cont to dec at the neckline as set and cast off 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 8) sts at the beg of next row.

Work one row.

Dec 1 st at the armhole edge of next row, and foll 3 (4, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8, 9) alt rows.. Keeping the armhole edge straight, cont to decrease for the neckline until 26 (27, 28, 28, 30, 30, 31, 31) sts rem. Work straight until work measures 58 (60, 61, 62,

64, 66, 68, 69) cm, ending after a wrong-side row (right front end after a right-side row).

Shape shoulder – Cast off 10 (11, 12, 12, 14, 14, 15, 15) sts at the beg of next row – 16 sts. Cont straight in cable patt and g-st as set until this section measures half the width of back neck (approx. (9.5, 9.5, 10, 10, 10.5, 10.5, 11) cm, ending after a wrong-side row.

Cast off.

RIGHT FRONT

With 4.5 mm needles, cast on 75 (81, 85, 91, 97, 101, 107, 111) sts.

1st row (right side) –

K3, work 1st row of cable and bobble patt, K1, P1, K1, rep from to end.

2nd row – P1, K1, P1, rep from until16 sts rem, work 1st row of cable and bobble patt, K3.

Rep these 2 rows working 3rd - 8th rows of cable and bobble pattern then cont in rib, cable and bobble patt and g-st as set until work measures 5 cm, ending after a wrong-side row.

Change to 5 mm needles and work in g-st, st-st and cable and bobble patt as follows:

1st row (right side) – K3, work 1st row of cable and bobble patt, knit to end.

2nd row – Purl until 16 sts rem, work 2nd row of cable and bobble patt, K3.

Rep these 2 rows working 3rd - 8th rows of cable and bobble pattern then cont in patt until work measures12 (12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 7, 6) cm, from beg, ending after a wrong-side row.

Shape neckline –

1st row (right side) – K3, work 1st row of cable and bobble patt, SKPO, knit to end.

2nd row – Purl until 16 sts rem, work 2nd row of cable and bobble patt, K3.

Work as given for left front from noting the bracketed exceptions.

SLEEVES

With 4.5 mm needles, cast on 55 (55, 55, 55, 59, 59, 59, 59) sts.

1st row (right side) – K1, [P1, K1] 10 (10, 10, 10, 11, 11, 11, 11) times, work 1st row of cable and bobble patt, K1, [P1, K1] 10 (10, 10, 10, 11, 11, 11, 11) times.

2nd row – P1, [K1, P1] 10 (10, 10, 10, 11, 11, 11,

11) times, work 2nd row of cable and bobble patt, P1, [K1, P1] 10 (10, 10, 10, 11, 11, 11, 11) times

Rep these 2 rows working 3rd - 8th rows of cable and bobble pattern then cont in rib, cable and bobble patt and g-st as set until work measures 4 cm, ending after a wrong-side row.

Change to 5 mm needles and work in st-st and cable and bobble patt as follows,

1st row (right side) – K21 (21, 21, 21, 23, 23, 23,

23) sts, work next row of cable and bobble patt,

K21 (21, 21, 21, 23, 23, 23, 23) sts.

2nd row – P21 (21, 21, 21, 23, 23, 23, 23) sts, work next row of cable and bobble patt, P21 (21, 21, 21, 23,

23, 23, 23) sts.

These 2 rows set the position of the patt.

Work 2 rows more.

Inc row – K2, m1, patt as set until 2 sts rem, m1, K2 – inc of 2 sts.

Keeping patt correct, rep inc row every foll 10th (8th, 8th, 8th, 6th, 6th, 6th, 6th) row until there are 69 (71, 75, 77, 79, 83, 85, 87) sts, working inc sts in st-st as set. Work straight until sleeve measures 37 (40, 40, 40, 40, 41, 41, 42) cm, ending after a wrong-side row.

Shape top – Keeping patt correct, cast off 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 8) sts at the beg of next 2 rows – 61 (63, 65, 67, 67, 71, 71, 71) sts.

Dec 1 st at each end of next 2 rows, then every foll alt row until there are 49 (51, 51, 53, 53, 55, 55, 55) sts. Work 2 (2, 4, 4, 6, 4, 6, 6) rows straight then dec 1 st at each end of next and every foll alt row until 41 sts rem, then dec 1 st at each end of next 2 rows

– 37 sts.

Cast off 12 sts at the beg of next 2 rows – 13 sts.

Cast off.

TO COMPLETE

Weave in ends and block pieces lightly. Join shoulder seams. Join front neckline sections seam and sew in place around the back of neck. Insert sleeve caps into armholes and sew in place. i-cord – With 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, cast on 4 sts. Knit one row, do not turn. Push the sts to the other end of the needle and knit these sts again. Repeat until the i-cord measures 25 cm, [K2 tog] twice and pass the first stitch over the last one and cast off the final st. Make 4 cords in total. To Make Up – Attach an i-cord to each cardigan front at the point where the decreases start. Attach an i-cord at the matching points on the seams. Sew sleeve and side seams, securing the i-cords within the side seams and leaving a small gap on left front for inside cord to be pulled through.
