The Magic Circle

The Magic Circle was formed in 1905 as a place for magicians to share their secrets in privacy.

Its first president was David Devant, whose signature trick was the magic kettle – it could pour whatever drink the audience requested.

Formed by 23 magicians at London’s Pinoli’s Restaurant, the society today has around 1,500 members and a purpose-built headquarters in London with a collection of antique props displayed throughout its rooms and corridors.

Celebrity members include Prince Charles and Stephen Fry.
