The People's Friend Special

Poetry by Lily Christie

- Lily Christie.

The allotment seemed a jungle When I was young and small, Courgettes spread like wildfire And beanstalks seemed so tall. Grandpa tended every plant To the gentle buzz of bees, While I was busy hunting slugs, Exploring on my knees.

I was Grandpa’s special helper In his home-grown grocery. Those wondrous days for ever Are etched in memory.
