Decorations
Imaginative ideas came from all quarters. To decorate the Christmas pud, the Ministry of Food suggested sourcing appropriate greenery and dipping it in a solution of Epsom salts to provide a frosting to make it look attractive atop the pudding.
Meanwhile, a shortage of fruit saw some suggest using colourful types of veg to replace fruit in bowls, while holly and other garden greenery formed wreaths and adorned living-rooms.
To finish off, paper chains made from brown paper and painted scraps of old newspapers hung around living-rooms.
