Guelder Rose
Perfect for a moist but not waterlogged garden, this native shrub is often found growing wild in hedgerows and bog lands, and is also a marker of an ancient woodland.
The lacy, sweet-scented flowers that form in spring will brighten up a shady border and set it abuzz with bees.
In autumn, the mapleshaped leaves blaze in resplendent red, and striking scarlet berries will appear, tempting birds such as mistle thrush and bullfinch to feast amongst its branches.
