TO EMBROIDER

1. Before you begin, press your fabric to ensure it is perfectly smooth.

2. Using the photograph and top diagram as a guide, transfer the motifs on to your fabric.

3. Place fabric in hoop, making sure it is taut. Do not use fusible interfacing on this design.

4. Following the instructions on the template and referring to stitch diagrams if needed, work all stitches using three strands of embroidery thread throughout. When working a straight stitch inside a lazy daisy stitch, complete the lazy daisy stitch first.

5. When embroidery is complete, take out of hoop and remove markings with a damp cotton bud if necessary.

TO MAKE UP

1. Trim the embroidered fabric into a 34 cm square. There should be 3 cm of seam allowance left between the embroidery and edge of the fabric.

2. Cut a 1.5 cm square out of each corner. This will reduce bulk when the raw edges are folded over and hemmed.

3. Fold and press the raw edges over 1 cm twice. Hand stitch the hem in place, making sure that the stitches aren’t visible on the right side of the embroidery. ■
