The Chelsea Flower Show is most definitely anti-gnome – they’ve been banning the fun-size guys since the very beginning. The Royal Horticultural Society forbids “brightly coloured mythical creatures” of all kinds, but in 2013, after a century of discriminating against diminutive garden guardians, they were allowed for one year only, with gnomes painted by celebrities such as Judi Dench, Dolly Parton and Elton John being auctioned for charity.
