Glasgow tram renovation resumes at Sumerlee

-

VOLUNTEERS resumed the restoration of Glasgow Coronation Tram No. 1245 in June after temporary postponement due to Covid-19. Work on the 1939-built double deck vehicle, which is based at Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life at Coatbridge began a decade ago and has involved a complete rebuild. The upper deck seats are ready to be refitted following the renewal of flooring. The tram’s exterior steps have been modified so that they can be removed in order to lower the tram sufficiently for it to leave the workshop.

The knock-on effects of repairs having to be carried out on Glasgow No. 1017 and more recently the Covid-19 pandemic have put the project almost three years behind schedule.
