Swift gets ready for action
EVERSHOLT Rail’s Swift Express Freight train is due to begin trials this summer, having been unveiled at the beginning of July.
Former Greater Anglia
Class 321 four-car electric multiple unit No. 321334 has been converted at Wabtec in Doncaster to carry parcels.
All but four seats (retained to give the option of carrying staff on board) have been removed and the interior fitted with clamps and bars to secure roll cages loaded with consignments during transit.
Additional conversions are planned as further Class 321s cease passenger duties and are returned to Eversholt, with a further four earmarked by the end of this year. It is anticipated that the sets will operate in multiple on longerdistance services. Options are also being explored for battery installation to allow shortdistance operation away from overhead wires.
