Engine donated to Class 210 project
THE Paxman 6RP200CL engine from prototype No. 210001 has been secured from the Anson Engine Museum for use in Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company’s bid to re-create one of the DEMUs.
Two Class 210s (four-car No. 210001 and three-car 210002) were built by British Rail to evaluate options for replacing first generation units, but the cost of producing a fleet was deemed too high. The driving motor vehicles were subsequently scrapped.
BRCW, which has revived the name of the former locomotive and rolling stock manufacturer, is aiming to re-create several examples of diesel locomotives and rolling stock which did not survive into preservation.
