Piling rig fuel trial
A PILING rig on the HS2 construction site near
Euston was powered by hydro-treated vegetable oil (HVO) during a three-week trial aimed at finding more environmentally-friendly fuels for use on construction sites.
HS2 says it is the first time such a trial has been conducted in the UK using a piling rig. The engine is believed to be the biggest used in testing the suitability of HVO.
Testing began on June 15. The final fortnight of the trial saw the rig running purely on HVO with continuous monitoring to establish if there had been any loss of power or damage to it.
