Volunteer guide
THE Avon Valley Railway has launched a new ‘Guide to Volunteering’ which provides an overview for all would-be volunteers. It can be downloaded at www. avonvalleyrailway.org – while printed booklets, produced thanks to funding from the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage, are available at Bitton station.
Keighley connection
THE Bahamas Locomotive Society (BLS) welcomed the grandchildren of Captain
Sir Tom Moore on a visit to Keighley on July 5. Captain Sir Tom’s family were in Keighley to visit the town where he was born and to scatter his ashes over the grave of his father at Riddlesden Cemetery. The grandchildren had asked to visit both Ingrow Loco and the Vintage Carriages Trust Museum at Ingrow following the ceremony.
Carriages undercover
THE North Yorkshire Moors Railway has completed its £4 million carriage stable, one of the key projects in its £10 million Yorkshire’s Magnificent Journey appeal. Featuring a cantilevered roof, the five-track shed can accommodate up to 40 coaches – and for the first time enable servicing and cleaning tasks to be done undercover.
