Shildon move for Kirtley locomotive

- JOHN TITLOW

THE National Railway Museum’s MR 1866-built Kirtley 2-4-0 No. 158A is to move from the Midland Railway – Butterley (MRB) to Locomotion in Shildon. This is to allow further conservation and mechanical assessment following a course of asbestos remediation which was successfully carried out by specialist contractors at MRB. The cladding, some pipework and fittings are already at Locomotion pending further conservation. Once conservation work has taken place, a decision will be made regarding its future and there is a possibility it may return to Swanwick. No. 158A was shunted by No. 12077 at MRB on July 6. Having been closed since Covid-19 struck, the MRB reopened on July 24.
