■ TALYLLYN Railway’s Fletcher Jennings 0-4-0WT No. 2 Dolgoch hauled its final train, a wedding special, before withdrawal for 10-year overhaul on October 1. Within days Dolgoch was being stripped down at Pendre.

■ RAVENGLASS & Eskdale Railway had to suspend operating on October 3 after localised flooding amid extreme weather conditions caused a landslip which severed the line. Trains resumed on October 16.

■ A FIRE was lit in the boiler of new-build 2ft gauge Bagnall ‘Sipat’ 0-4-0ST Big Dave and the loco run under its own steam, on rollers, at North Bay Railway Engineerin­g on October 4. The loco has been built for use at the West of Fife Munitions Railway at Lathalmond.

■ LINCOLNSHI­RE Coast Light Railway’s final operating day of the 2021 season on September 4 was the busiest day the line has had since it reopened at the Skegness site in 2009.

■ A NEW boiler constructe­d by Severn Valley Railway was test fitted in the frames of Isle of Man Railway’s Beyer, Peacock 2-4-0T No. 12 Hutchinson at Douglas on September 29. The locomotive was withdrawn from traffic at the end of August 2019 when the certificat­e for its previous boiler expired.

■ GROUDLE Glen Railway’s September 19 gala day featured four locomotive­s in steam: Bagnall 2-4-0T Sea Lion, replica Bagnall 2-4-0T Brown Bear and new-build Bagnall ‘Sipat’ 0-4-0ST Otter and replica Bagnall 0-4-2T Annie.

■ AT the beginning of October, the finishing touches were being made to the new 15in gauge events carriage Ruth constructe­d at Boston Lodge by Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway for the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway.

■ Sittingbou­rne & Kemsley Light Railway’s (SKLR) September 26 gala centred on Kerr, Stuart 0-4-2ST Leader, the 10-year ticket for which expires next May. Also in action was Hunslet 4wDM 4182/1953 Victor making rare appearance­s working passenger trains. Scheduled to replace Leader in SKLR’s roster will be Kerr, Stuart 0-4-2ST Premier which has been out of service for over a decade.

■ THE boiler for Great Laxey Mines Tramway’s replica Lewin 0-4-0T Bee has returned to the line following retubing, enabling reassembly of the loco.
