Hayes & Harlington becomes step free

-

NETWORK Rail has completed an upgrade at Hayes & Harlington station in reparation of the Elizabeth line opening in the first half of 2022. It is the sixth TfL Rail station to be upgraded to provide step-free access in the past seven months as part of the Crossrail project.

The work has included new lifts, ticket machines and clearer customer information for planning onward journeys. Similar upgrades have been undertaken along the TfL Rail western route at Acton Main Line, West Ealing, Ealing Broadway, West Drayton and Southall.

As an interchange station for those travelling to and from Heathrow Airport, Hayes & Harlington now features a station entrance made from glass and steel, with a spacious ticket hall inside. There is a wider gateline to improve passenger flow. A new footbridge leads from the ticket hall to platforms with three new lifts that provide step-free access to all five platforms.

A new waiting room and toilets have been completed, and there are new platform canopies. NR has extended all the platforms to accommodate the 204m long nine-car Class 345 trains.
