Trackworkers turn rescuers in the Peak District
TWO Network Rail workers have been hailed as heroes after rescuing an 81-year-old man who became stranded while picking blackberries for his wife in the Peak District. Manchester-based trackworkers Colin Phillips and Rolando Navarro were working on some points at Peak Forest, Derbyshire on September 30, when they heard cries for help, and an arm waving in the grass. They found a local man who had slipped and fallen down an embankment when the weather took a turn for the worse. Exhausted, wet and cold, the man only named as Denis, was brought to safety by the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team. Denis subsequently made a donation to the Mountain Rescue Team as a thank you.
