Pride roundels revealed
Ten designs by well known LGBTQ+ Londoners and staff displayed at stations.
TRANSPORT for London has installed 10 thought-provoking versions of its trademark roundel at stations on the Underground in celebration and support of the LGBTQ+ community.
Five well known LGBTQ+ Londoners produced designs, along with five TfL staff members.
London’s Night Czar Amy Lamé drew inspiration from Oscar Wilde to produce a roundel with the quote: ‘Be yourself; everyone else is taken.’ It is displayed at Caledonian Road, along with a roundel created by TfL customer service assistant Edwin, which uses Pride colours to capture the courage of a lion.
Inspiration
At Baker Street, passengers can see broadcaster and railway historian Tim Dunn’s ‘OURS’ roundel, which incorporates the London cityscape. Also displayed there is TfL fire engineer Paul’s pop art-inspired design.
Campaigner Marc Thompson’s creation uses the words of activist Joseph Beam, which, along with a work combining the themes of Pride, Tube routes and the NHS by TfL planning manager Joseph, can be found at Brixton.
For Vauxhall station, fashion designer Philip Normal devised a black roundel bearing the word: ‘UNTITLED’ and TfL assistant project manager Jack’s creation features the progress flag and a disco ball.
Museum curator Dan Vo’s tram moquette-inspired sign and TfL analyst Sarah’s hope and unity design can both be seen at Hammersmith station.
