Cumbrian rail heritage remembered with unit naming

-

BARROWINFURNESS station was the venue for the naming of Northern Class 195 diesel multiple unit, No. 195109, Pride of Cumbria, marking 175 years since the operation of the first services on the Furness Railway. The Mayor of Barrow, Coun Helen Wall, unveiled the name at a ceremony on October 1. A series of events have taken place to mark the anniversary year and visitors can find out more about the history of the railway, which grew from a link between the Dalton-in-Furness iron ore mines and Barrow, from new information boards in the waiting room at Barrow station.

The unit shares its name with Direct Rail Services Class 57, No. 57310 and, prior to that, it was carried by Class 47,

No. 47802.
