Bahamas is among the stars of The Railway Children Return film
LMS ‘Jubilee’ No. 45596 Bahamas is among the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway-based (KWVR) locos to feature in the new film, The Railway Children Return.
As previously reported, the film is due to be released in UK cinemas on April 1, 2022. Picking up nearly 40 years after the events of the original film, the sequel shows a new group of children who are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during the Second World War. Studio Canal, which has produced the film, has released a trailer www. youtube.com titled ‘The Railway Children Return First Look’.
Other KWVR steam locos in the clip include ‘4F’ 0-6-0 No. 43924 (running as No. 3924) and ‘S160’ 2-8-0 No. 5820 ‘Big Jim’. In readiness for further main line tours in the year ahead, Bahamas has been undergoing winter maintenance – including caulking some of the crown stays above the firebox, which required removal of the cladding.
Members of the 4-6-0’s owning group, the Bahamas Locomotive Society have also been progressing the return of LNWR 0-6-2T ‘Coal Tank’
No. 1054. In mid-November, it was awaiting a boiler inspection. The next stage will be for the boiler to be returned to the frames and reassembly completed. With the last overhaul having been a major type, the work required this time has not been as extensive.
It is hoped to have No. 1054 ready for events in 2022 to celebrate the centenary of the merger of the London & North Western and the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway companies. A visit to the East Lancashire Railway has also been pencilled in for next summer.
Following the completion of No. 1054, attention is set to turn to Hudswell, Clark 0-6-0 Nunlow (1704/1929). Last steamed in April 2018, it is currently on display at Ingrow ‘Loco Shed’.
