A new ‘old’ loco for Watford

-

THE latest steam loco to join the collection at the 10¼in gauge Watford Miniature Railway is 4-6-2 Henry. Built by Ernest Dove in 1950 it was previously known as Commodore Vanderbilt.

It first ran at Gwrych Castle, near Abergele, North Wales and spent a few seasons at the Great Orme in Llandudno before moving to eastern England.

The American-outline Pacific was at Skegness 1954-1971, and then the Ferry Meadows Railway, Peterborough, 1979-2007.

There, it received the name Henry and was given a British outline. It is currently awaiting restoration to working order having been unused for more than a decade

The line is open December 23-24, 26-January 2, 12.00-16.00, weather permitting.
