Longer wait for more trains to serve Teesside Airport

-

ANY hope of increasing the number of train services to Teesside Airport station are at least three years away, according to a report from the Tees Valley Combined Authority. The station, which saw just 338 passengers in 2019/20, is served by just one train per week in one direction only and there is access to the airport only, not to the station from the adjacent A67 road. At present the only service calling at the station is the 14.25 Hartlepool-Darlington, plus the main terminal is a distance from the station. The report says upgrades at Darlington and Middlesbrough are a priority, but plans to remove the eastbound platform and disused footbridge at a cost of around £700,000 and upgrade facilities on the remaining platform will have to wait. A plan in 2019 to move the station closer to the terminal was ruled out.
