‘Kerosene Castle’ to get fresh look
PETE Waterman’s ex-Brown Boveri gas turbine loco
No. 18000 – affectionately known as ‘Kerosene Castle’ – is set to benefit from a refresh at Didcot Railway Centre. A two-year cosmetic restoration is planned, which will include repairs to the corroded bodywork and a return to the original black and silver livery.
Since its days as a gas turbine, the loco has been extensively modified, all traction equipment having been removed, precluding its restoration to working order. It has therefore been agreed that an estimated £4000 worth of scrap copper inside the loco can be sold to help fund the work.
