Eastleigh loco repainted as a Brighton ‘Atlantic’

- PICTURE: LIONEL KAY

THE 10¼in gauge 4-4-2 at the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway (ELSR) has received an eye-catching new livery. It had run in Southern green since October 2005, when named Ernest Henry Upton. Not strictly a Marsh ‘Atlantic’, it now looks like one, with its authentic LBSCR 1911 umber livery with gold lining and lettering, but carrying the same number as before, 1908.

Built in 1937 by G&S Engineering and named Sir A. Montgomery, it ran at Dudley Zoo before the war. After changing hands a few times it was acquired for the ELSR in February 2002.
