Waterman’s celebrity Class 47 leaves ELR
THE second-built of a total of 512 Brush Type 4s, No. D1501 (later TOPS No. 47402 Gateshead), made its final runs on the East Lancashire Railway (ELR) on April 2/3 (see photo on page 52). Owned by the Waterman Heritage Trust, it was bought for preservation by Pete Waterman and moved to the ELR in June 1993. It has seen considerable use since then and received much attention, but open-air stabling was beginning to take its toll on its internal condition. It has joined other locos owned by the trust at Peak Rail, Rowsley South, where undercover accommodation is available.
