Great Malvern’s canopies to be restored

-

GREAT Malvern’s attractive Victorian station canopies are to be restored as part of a £4m investment by Network Rail.

The station was opened by Worcester and Hereford Railway in 1860 and has maintained many of its original Victorian features – including elaborate cast-iron girders supported by impressive sculptures of floral arrangements. The station became Grade II listed in 1969.

Work on the canopy began during the first week of April and is expected to be complete early next year. Overhead glazing will be replaced and the ornate ironwork will be repainted during the refurbishment.

This new investment comes after £8000 was spent last year repairing the station clock. It had been stuck on the same time for over three years.
