Second ‘expression of interest’ from TPE

TRANSPENNINE Express has invited expressions of interest in the supply of new or cascaded vehicles in connection with the Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade (TRU) Programme, complementing an earlier proposal for new bi-mode locomotives. Three alternatives have been set out with base quantities. The first is for 25 five-car bi-mode units, while the second comprises 18 five-car EMUs and 11 five-car bi-mode sets. The third option is for 12 five-car rakes of coaching stock. Scope is defined for larger quantities and potential suppliers are expected to offer solutions which could be augmented to six or seven-car formations.
