Scottish Sleeper contract cancelled
THE Scottish Government has decided to cancel the contract with Serco to run the Caledonian Sleeper services, with the agreement ending on June 25 next year.
Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth said: “The proposal to rebase the franchise agreement… has been rejected on the grounds of not representing value for money to the public.
“Work is under way to determine arrangements for the continued provision of Caledonian Sleeper rail services… and this will be updated to Parliament once determined.”
Gilruth added, somewhat ambiguously: “It is worth noting that Serco Caledonian Sleepers Limited has, broadly, delivered well and significantly improved Caledonian Sleeper services over the last seven years.”
