Royal ‘Choppers’

ON PAGE 11 (October), the use of DRS Class 20s on the Royal Train is certainly noteworthy, but arguably not the first instance of privately-owned locos. DRS was a subsidiary of BNFL, and therefore a publicly-owned body in all but name. In my book, the EWS locos would have more claim to being regarded as privately-owned, EWS being a subsidiary of US railroad Wisconsin Central.
