-

The restoration from Barry scrapyard condition of BR ‘2MT’ No. 46428 continues to be progressed by the loco’s owning group, Bury Standard 4 Group at its Bury Bolton Street premises on the East Lancashire Railway. Further dismantling of the front end of the Ivatt boiler has been carried out – including removal of the chimney. On October 2, the old smokebox was separated from the boiler. Pictured after completion of the task are, left to right: Nigel Barnes, Gary Haworth, Derek Broadbent and Joe Chatterton. The team has since removed the smokebox ring and the superheater header. A new smokebox is steadily taking shape with the door frame now having been rivetted on. Work has also started on refurbishing the brake control rods.
