No. 1 Talyllyn will return to traffic on completion of its current overhaul in Great Eastern Railway blue livery. The decision was made by members at the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society (TRPS) annual meeting in late September. A manipulated image released on social media shows the 1865-built loco in a dark blue colour with red lining and the name Talyllyn in shaded gold capital letters on the saddle tank.

Although traditionally painted in TR bronze green, Talyllyn has previously carried one-off liveries including all black and a deep red which aimed to replicate the livery in which it was originally supplied to the railway. It has not previously appeared in blue. The chassis is currently stored in the shed at Quarry Siding, while the boiler is receiving attention from TR volunteers at the Mid-Hants Railway’s Ropley works.

The RM has learned that Kerr, Stuart 0-4-2ST TR No. 4 Edward Thomas will be repainted in a red livery at some point in 2023 in connection with a photo charter before it is withdrawn for 10-year overhaul.

The TRPS annual meeting also elected long-time TR volunteer Chris Price as its new president to succeed David Mitchell. Chris Price was TR general manager between January 2014 and September 2015 and has remained a volunteer since he left to take up the post of North Yorkshire Moors Railway general manager.
