Coolant issue sidelines ‘Deltic’ No. D9000 after main line return

-

DESPITE a triumphant return to the main line on September 24, after a 20-year absence, ‘Deltic’ No. D9000 Royal Scots Grey has been withdrawn from traffic after a coolant related issue was discovered. In a social media message, InterCity, part of the Locomotive Services Group (LSG), said the withdrawal was in order to make the loco more ‘robust’ for regular tours.

LSG has indicated the loco will return in 2023 once work on the second engine has been completed over the winter.

The loco was also booked to work from Newcastle-uponTyne to Bridgnorth on October 12, then on October 29 along the East Coast Main Line from Finsbury Park to Newcastle, but these tours have been cancelled and a new date is awaited.
