City status leads to name change for Dunfermline Town

-

THE granting of historic status for Dunfermline by King Charles and recognition as a city has led to ScotRail amending the name of Dunfermline Town railway station to Dunfermline City.

The new King and Queen Consort visited the city for a special ceremony on October 3.

Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth was keen that the station’s name reflected the importance of Dunfermline’s status and approved the process to make this happen.

She said: “I am pleased that Dunfermline Town station will be renamed by ScotRail as Dunfermline City so that everyone arriving and leaving by rail knows that Dunfermline is now a city again.”

However, it will take some time to complete the logistics of the name change across the many databases throughout the rail industry, including those used by Network Rail for signalling, timetabling, and operational purposes.
