Farewell to Byford
HAVING announced in September his decision to leave the position of Transport Commissioner for London, Andy Byford stepped down at the end of October.
He became Commissioner in June 2020, overseeing the opening of the Elizabeth line and working to ensure an agreement with the Government on funding for Transport for London, as well as organisational changes.
Mr Byford, whose public transport career began 33 years ago with London Underground, has occupied a number of senior roles in the UK and overseas and was president of New York City Transit before his return to the capital two years ago.
TfL chief operating officer Andy Lord has become Commissioner on an interim basis.
