Class 777 introduction imminent

THE first of the 53 Stadlerbuilt Class 777 units are expected to enter service in the next few weeks, with Merseyrail stating on Twitter introduction will start on the Kirkby line.

Seven of the four-car trains are being fitted with batteries and designated Independently-Powered Electric Multiple Units (IPEMUs). They will be able to operate beyond the reach of the third-rail network, including to the new station at Headbolt Lane, due to open next year.
