Freight sidings proposed for Rosslare
IARNRÓD Éireann has confirmed that it is considering providing quayside freight sidings at Rosslare Europort as part of the Offshore Wind facility design, subject to planning and funding being met. Spokesman Barry Kenny said it would not be part of the initial activity but is being considered as post offshore activity, if the site was to be used/converted for future lift-on/lift-off with container activity. Asked if the mothballed South Wexford line would be part of this plan for potential railfreight, Mr Kenny said a decision on the line’s future or to grant Wexford County Council a licence to convert it to a greenway would be made in the context of the AllIsland Rail Review.
