NEW BOG LINE SET TO OPEN:

- SEAN CAIN

Despite the winding down of peat extraction and of railway operations as a result of a switch away of peat, Bord na Mona continues to build new lines. A new branch almost 1.5 km long is under construction to link a bog at Clonlyon Glebe, North of Ferbane, into the existing Blackwater System. The junction is at Derryharney where a facing connection has been installed. By early October, approximately 200m of the branch had been laid. The line crosses a minor road at which a level crossing was constructed approximately 15 years ago. The clearance of Clonlyon bog will keep Derrinlough Briquette Factory rail served for several months once other bogs have been exhausted.
