LAST month’s photo (right, taken by Chris Gee on April 24) shows the remains of the remote signalbox at Belah in Cumbria.

The box was at the western end of the former Belah Viaduct on the closed South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway between Bishop Auckland and Tebay, which closed in stages between 1952 and 1962 but a small section has been preserved by the Stainmore Railway Company at Kirkby Stephen East.

In this month’s photo (left), the HST finds itself on very rare track.
