Chalking up ‘progress’?

-

I READ my RM from end to end every month and, living in Amersham, always read HS2 News. The October issue recorded the millionth cubic metre of chalk to the Southern Portal and referenced carbon reduction targets. Today on a five minute journey from Amersham to Beaconsfield, we passed 10 loaded Hanson trucks en route to HS2. It is a constantly mind-numbing thought to see this endless procession to and fro. How this helps carbon reduction goodness knows. I know the London to Aylesbury line is busy, but surely its proximity to the works should have been considered before road haulage, which has been going on for many months now. Peter Smith By email
