With the expiry of its boiler certificate imminent, GWR 2-8-0T No. 4270 performed in its last gala for the foreseeable future during the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway’s October 29/30 mixed traffic event. The 42XX is to enjoy a ‘last blast’ over the Christmas and New Year period when it is due to be rostered for public trains on December 26-31 and January 2/3 with SR Bulleid Pacific No. 35006 Peninsular & Oriental S. N. Co. The future of No. 4270 remained unconfirmed in midNovember, be it a move to Locomotive Services Group at Crewe or the One:Once Collection in Margate. No. 4270 is pictured departing Cheltenham Racecourse with a demonstration freight train on October 30.
