THE WAY AHEAD:
Following community consultation, Network Rail has confirmed which of the three design options to rebuild Troon station proved most popular, the building having been destroyed by fire in July 2021. The choice is option two (RM October, p78) – an interpretation of the previous structure with the removal of redundant chimneys but with an enlarged and reconfigured internal space. Work is progressing to a detailed design ahead of a planning application.
