French line opens to avoid refinery
A 4.5km section of new electrified railway has opened at Donges in western France to replace the previous part of the Nantes to Saint-Nazaire line that ran through the country’s second largest oil refinery. Modern safety rules mean that non-(trained) employees should not be allowed anywhere near such major industrial sites. The new line runs north of the refinery and the old line will be lifted in 2023.
