Glasgow Subway progress?
REGARDING the new trains on Glasgow’s Subway (page 83, February), why on earth are we buying new trains at a cost of many millions of pounds only to have the Project Director state that “it would take time to achieve full reliability” and then have to have two trains following each other in case one breaks down.
How much lower can we sink in accepting such rubbish from the train makers and those responsible for the running of the fleet? It reminds me of a previous Scottish fiasco that was the production of the Hillman Imp in the 1960s:‘Buy an Imp – the walk will do you good!’

Elizabeth Line potential
REGARDING ‘A high speed Elizabeth Line’ (page 53, February) – what an excellent letter, but will the Government listen?
It would at least make HS2 worthy of all that money spent on it, which we must always remember is our money, not the Government’s. And who thought of unnecessarily upgrading HS2 to such an unaffordable grade, which in the end finished it off as the cost spiralled out of control, meaning it will only go from nowhere to nowhere and always be uncompleted.
Stephen Bennett, Ramsgate FOLLOWING Peter Middleton’s comment regarding the Elizabeth Line running from
Old Oak Common to Stratford (page 53, February) why does the Great Western Railway completely ignore the existence of this fine cross-London service? All the on-train announcements seem to totally avoid any reference to this excellent train service. What does GWR have to say for this omission?
